AFF’s approach is guided by its mission to promote food security while preserving hope and dignity. Rather than simply helping, we try to take the time to meet families in person. understand their unique circumstances and identify their specific needs. We deliver support with compassion, confidentiality, integrity, and respect, ensuring that every family is treated with dignity. Our goal is not only to meet immediate needs but also to help families become self-reliant and financially stable. Our support is centered around the following key areas:

Depending on each family’s unique circumstances and needs, AFF may provide:

• High-quality food hampers:

➢ Fresh fruits and vegetables

➢ Dairy products

➢ Halal meat

• Household essentials

• Laundry and cleaning supplies

• Other essential items, subject to need and available resources

AFF follows a structured and transparent assessment process to ensure that assistance reaches those with genuine need. The assessment generally includes:

• Meeting the family in person to better understand their unique circumstances.

• Completing AFF’s Family Assessment Questionnaire.

• Collecting supporting documentation, including a minimum of three months of bank statements and the most recent Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Notice of Assessment.

• Conducting reasonable due diligence by an assigned director.

• Presenting the assessment and supporting information to the Board of Directors.

• Each Board member independently reviews the application and makes an unbiased decision. Assistance is approved only after receiving majority approval from the Board. Once approved, the family is enrolled in AFF’s assistance program according to its assessed needs.

AFF helps without discrimination based on race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, language, or social background. Eligibility is determined solely based on genuine need, available resources, and AFF’s assessment criteria, in accordance with the Foundation’s mission, policies, and applicable Islamic charitable principles.

AFF is a Calgary-based registered charity organization, and our current programs are focused on serving individuals and families within Calgary and surrounding communities. As our resources and funding grow, AFF hopes to expand its services to other parts of Canada and, where feasible, support humanitarian initiatives internationally while complying to its mission.

AFF assigns a dedicated team member to work closely with each family and support their journey toward self-sufficiency. The team assesses the family's education, skills, work experience, and employment readiness to identify any gaps that may be preventing them from becoming financially independent. Based on this assessment, AFF provides guidance on improving resumes, upgrading skills, pursuing education or training, and accessing available community resources. Whenever possible, we connect families with potential employers, employment opportunities, and relevant professional contacts.

When AFF receives a request for critical health support, the organization first assesses the individual’s specific needs and the circumstances preventing them from obtaining coverage through provincial health services or available insurance options. AFF may request supporting documentation, including a recommendation letter from a medical professional, to understand the necessity and urgency of the required assistance. The request is then reviewed by the Board of Directors, and a decision to approve or decline support is made based on the merits of the case, available resources, and AFF’s support criteria.

AFF discourages providing rental assistance as a regular form of support. However, in exceptional circumstances where temporary rental assistance is necessary to prevent significant hardship, AFF may consider providing support based on the individual family’s situation and available resources. Where rental assistance is approved, AFF prefers to make payments directly to the landlord, property owner, or property management company to ensure transparency and proper use of funds.
